The Fear Standard - Chapter 1 ­ What Is Fear?

My intent is to more fully bring fear out of the Dark and into the Light.  When we can identify something, have information and actually know it, we then have the power to take the highest quality action possible, making decisions about how we choose to "be" ­ behave, believe, belong, and become. We can activate much more of our own personal power in a positive way...

Original Fear
A Natural Part Of Being

The first category is called "original" fear.  It is the basic emotion which is an instinctual survival mechanism found among most living things. This instinctive emotional response is commonly known as the "fight or flight" response.  It would seem that it has always been a simple part of the makeup of a creature in order to have ability to respond to and defend against impending personal physical harm or death ­ a sort of built-in opportunity to continue. It could also be called the "true" fear. This built-in response is that additional adrenaline rush our body provides for a big boost in heightened awareness of all our senses. Basically, our senses are placed on high alert, and our body prepares for action.

A significant characteristic of original fear is that it is in the moment or in our present experience, whether the actual occurrence of it is brief, or whether the actual occurrence of it extends for a period of time.  The true or real situation is being played out now.

Time then becomes the significant factor that differentiates brief occurrences of original fear to prolonged ones, where we are then confronted with thinking about and feeling our specific situation to a much greater degree. We have the opportunity to make some other choices throughout the experience. The instinctual fear response initially happens, and then other versions of it usually occur throughout the extended experience.

To summarize, we can make some decisions about how we will choose to live within the boundaries of our dilemma.

Evolved Fear

The second category of fear is called "evolved" fear.  The distinction to remember about evolved fear is that it is future oriented.  The experience of evolved fear is not based on an actual event unfolding now in its totality to us personally.  This is something to realize and know, because evolved fear, then, takes a person out of living in the present into creating a future "what if" situation. And the future "what if" situation being created is based on information, yet is not completely occurring to us presently.

Evolved fear is created as a result of a past experience with someone or something.  The past experience does not have to be personally experienced, as in an original fear experience.  It is also the result of behaviors, attitudes, beliefs, and other information passed down from others.

Participating in evolved fear requires us to hold information, thoughts or beliefs from which we may create a potential fear or worry about something at any time. It will be the information that prompts us to remove ourselves from harm's way when we see something coming, if we know what to do. Whether we act quickly or we take action much later depends on the degree we perceive and have faith in that danger.  Of course, this becomes part of how we live our daily lives.  Evolved fear enters into a part of our personal identity and beliefs, our attitudes and views of our world, our liberty and freedom, and how others perceive us. It can be our greatest friend. Evolved fear also becomes our greatest enemy, where we live in an illusion of ongoing fears in a false dream.

The Illusion

Each one of us holds within ourselves an unlimited and tremendous personal power to create our reality.  This is so important to remember.

We know that participating in evolved fear also requires us to carry attitudes or beliefs from which we may create fears around something or someone.  They can be the beliefs, attitudes and thoughts from an original fear experience, and the result of behaviors, attitudes, and beliefs regarding information passed down from others.

I propose to you that, aside from the positive evolved fear possibilities one could experience, the remainder of all evolved fear is pure negativity and illusion. It is the consummation of all Dark force possibilities.  And it is through this negative evolved fear that we have the majority of our fear experiences. Think about it.  This is where we live so much of the time ­ a non-reality that keeps us bottled up where we cannot live in the present moment ­ where we cannot truly be who we really are. If we were going about our daily lives consciously living in the present, negative evolved fear would be eliminated.  This is the place where we give up our joy, love, beauty, spontaneity, personal power and individuality in life because we think, believe, and live in the place of our negative perceptions.  We go as far as giving up parts of our personal identity and basic needs out of imagined fears and "what if" mind games that we create within ourselves. The truth is that we tell ourselves every day that we have no love and no power in some way. Yes, we are really telling ourselves that we are powerless and unlovable. And another truth is that every day on some level someone else is telling us that same thing ­ most of the time that is exactly how those beliefs come to us.

It seems more than appropriate to classify negative evolved fear as one of the greatest diseases in our world society today. It belongs to every one of us. We each perpetuate evolved fear as we continue to live in that negativity and illusion. It has been something that has crept into everyone's lives, growing steadily as far back as human history, to replay itself over and over again until somehow we recognize and stop our unnatural behavior ­ one individual at a time.
